EPL 2017/18: Liverpool 1-1 Burnley, Player Ratings
Liverpool dropped two crucial points against a high-flying Burnley side with the game at Anfield ending at one goal apiece. After a cagey start, Liverpool found their stride but soon went behind after Scott Arfield scored in the 27th minute. Mohamed Salah continued his brilliant run and equalised for the Reds in less than two minutes.
Despite attack after attack, Liverpool could not break down the Burnley backline which resulted in the Clarets remaining ahead of Liverpool in the league table. On that note, let's take a look at the player ratings from the game between Liverpool and Burnley:
Liverpool
Simon Mignolet: 6.5/10
The Belgian custodian did not have much to do but was hard done by his covering defenders. He made one fine save off Ben Mee which effectively kept his side in the game.
Trent Alexander-Arnold: 6/10
The young fullback was always effective going forward with his crosses threatening the Burnley defence. But he was found wanting at times due to his eagerness to help out the forwards.
Joel Matip: 7/10
Matip looked Liverpool's most assured defender with the central defender making numerous crucial tackles and interceptions. But he was expected to do better in the air for Burnley's goal when he contested a duel with Chris Wood.
Ragnar Klavan: 5/10
Just like Dejan Lovren, Ragnar Klavan has that odd mistake in his play which may prove to be costly for his team. He should have done much better for the goal conceded with his position being questionable. Liverpool's centre-back woes are sadly here to stay!
Andrew Robertson: 7/10
The left-back looked assured with the ball at his feet and calm when defending in tight situations. His crossing was not at his usual best but his attacking output was unquestionable.
Emre Can: 7.5/10
Playing in a deeper role than usual, Can looked confident with his brilliant defence-splitting passes helping the Reds to break Burnley's defensive lines of four.
James Milner: 5.5/10
The veteran was brought in a surprise start by Klopp and the former Manchester City man was good with his work rate but failed to provide an attacking spark in the middle of the park.
Philippe Coutinho: 6/10
The Brazilian looked a bit rusty and at times tried a bit too much to get on the score sheet. Coutinho improved as the game went on with his runs from midfield being helpful in creating chances for the Reds.
Mohamed Salah: 7.5/10
The winger looked Liverpool's most threatening player and scored his fifth goal of the season with a neat finish. His runs behind the defenders made the hosts put intense pressure on the Clarets.
Roberto Firmino: 6/10
The Brazilian linked up well with Coutinho and Sturridge but was largely ineffective on his own. It was a rare off day for Liverpool's Raumdeuter.
Daniel Sturridge: 7/10
The striker is looking as hard working as he has ever been in his Liverpool stint. Sturridge dropped deep, linked up well, created chances and had a couple himself. All his performance lacked was a match-winning goal!
Substitutions
Dominic Solanke: 6/10
The youngster made some good runs but lacked the luck to get at the end of some delicious crosses.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: 5.5/10
Chamberlain created a couple of half chances and looked eager to get involved as much as he can.
