EPL - Manchester City vs Newcastle United: City display title ambitions, rip Newcastle apart
Manchester City flexed their muscles in a show of the quality they have in terms of fighting for the title this season, running out 4-0 winners against a hapless Newcastle United.
The City of Manchester Stadium was full, with an expectant crowd looking to see the impact all the new signings would have on the team and their chances of regaining the title and a better show in the Champions League. The game started off at an electric pace, with both teams trying to counter attack and take advantage of a slip by the opposition.
Right from the first whistle, it was obvious that Newcastle was completely outclassed and their only chance lay in keeping possession of the ball, try to work their way past the City defence. However the Toons chose to go toe to toe with the Citizens and attempted to match their pace. It proved to be their undoing.
The breakthrough came as early as the 6th minute, with David Silva opening the scoring for Manchester City, sending the crowd into frenzy. This was followed by Aguero’s goal in the 22nd minute, thanks to a fantastic counter-attacking move from the City midfield. By then, it was clear that it was not going to be Newcastle’s night and the frustration showed on the players, with Steven Taylor picking up a red card at the end of the first half, making it all the more difficult for his team to make a comeback.
Newcastle did not stand a chance in the second half, when Yaya Toure scored City’s third, putting the game away safely. Samir Nasri, coming off the bench, added a fourth for good measure, rounding up a successful night and a wonderful start for Manchester City, putting them on top of the table.
