EPL: Team of the weekend
This week the Barclay’s Premier league witnessed some exciting games and some unexpected results.
The city of Manchester crumbled against formidable oppositions as Man Utd lost to West Brom and City went down at Villa park. The Baggies won against a low on confidence Manchester squad whereas City were humbled by a late charge by Aston Villa. Tottenham held on to a point at White hart Lane against a dull Chelsea who were later rejuvenated by a second half introduction of Juan Mata. Cardiff left it late to win against Fulham with the help of a Jordan Mutch stunner.Hull city bagged three points against West Ham with the help of a Robbie Brady penalty. Southampton saw their two strikers Osvaldo and Ricky Lambert on target as Southampton continue to grow under new Coach Mauricio Pochettino. Arsenal showed they are worthy of a title challenge with a win over Swansea with young German Gnabry and in form Aaron Ramsey on target.
Lets have a look at the team of this week
Goalkeeper: Hugo Lloris(Spurs)
Hugo Lloris has been brilliant for Spurs since his move from Lyon.He was brilliant against Chelsea
and he could not be blamed for Terry’s superb goal.He has been a great performer and hence he bags this spot for the best goalkeeper.
Left Back: Antonio Luna(Aston Villa)
Luna (tony moon) was excellent against the rare victory against Man City tracking Milner perfectly.There was a little concern when Pellegrini introduced Navas but Luna eliminated that threat with some superb defending.
Centre Back: Gareth McAuley(West Brom)
McAuley marshaled his back line beautifully to gain a hard fought win against Man Utd. Steve Clark was jubilant on the win against the Red Devils and praised his defence for a strong and formidable performance.
Centre Back: John Terry(Chelsea)
The Captain,Leader,Legend at Chelsea again rescued Chelsea from a poor and dull display again at White Hart Lane. Terry scored and defended well in a well earned draw against a new and exciting Spurs lineup.
Right Back: Kyle Walker(Spurs)
One of the swiftest Right Backs in the Premier league, Walker troubled Chelsea at times and Chelsea pondered how to neutralise the threat from the right flank. So Walker becomes an obvious choice at this position.
Midfield:
Aaron Ramsey(Arsenal)(C):
It would have been unethical to not include this rising star into this lineup. Ramsey has had an awakening this season and with the help of him Arsenal can truly challenge for the title after so many years. With Ozil coming in to accelerate Arsenal’s progress Ramsey seems to rise from his shadow. With another excellent display against Swansea, Ramsey is the top performer of this squad and hence the skipper of this weekend’s first XI.
Juan Mata(Chelsea):
He showed what a real talent he is. Mata answered Mourinho and his critics with a brilliant second half display against Spurs,being dropped at the start of the season. Mourinho stated Mata had to improve on his defensive frailties and the small Spanish playmaker answered with his performance which probably books him a place for Chelsea’s Champions League encounter with Steau Bucharest.
Morgan Amalfitano(West Brom):
A clever player with a brilliant eye for goal, Amalfitano scored a cheeky goal for the Baggies against United to set the match rolling. Amalfitano has certainly added a lot to West Brom’s deprived midfield and he maybe the final piece in the jigsaw puzzle for Steve Clarke’s side.
Serge Gnabry(Arsenal):
Man on call. Walcott’s injury and the unavailability of the ‘Ox’ Chamberlain Gnabry was called for first team action and he restored the faith put in him by Arsene Wenger. He maneuvered the right flank just like Theo Walcott and scored his first goal for his senior team against Swansea.
Forwards:
Pablo Osvaldo(Southampton)
The Italian is a true talent and a good acquisition for Mauricio Pochettino’s side. He started the scoring for his team against Crystal Palace. A brilliant goal and a perfect center forward play earns him a place in this week’s best XI.
Luis Suarez(Liverpool)
The Bad boy is back and back in style. Suarez impressed against United in the League Cup,although Liverpool went down at United. He was the impetus that Liverpool needed to surge back into the title challenge. Two well crafted goals against low-lying Sunderland and an improved partnership with Sturridge means Liverpool are packing a punch.
With this best XI, Steven Caulker(Cardiff), Gary Medel(Cardiff), Gylfi Sigurdsson(Spurs),Yaya Toure(Man City), are notable performers of this week.
