Euro 2016: 6 contenders for the golden boot
The Euro 2016 is only days away as teams finish up their preparation before the start of the tournament. Spain concluded their last friendly last night as they suffered a humiliating defeat to minnows Georgia, losing 1-0.
Portugal will play the last friendly before the competition tonight as they take on Estonia. It’s not easy when playing for your international team, because the amount of time you spend training with your international mates is minimum.
Nevertheless, there are players who are expected to perform at the standards they set at club level, most of them normally being the goalscorers. So here are the 5 players who could take the Euro 2016 by storm and claim the Golden Boot.
6) Harry Kane
Harry Kane had a blinder of a season in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur. The striker first burst onto the scene in the 2014/15 season becoming the first player since Gary Lineker to score more than 30 goals in all competitions in a single season for the club
He was out to prove that he was not just a one-season wonder and accomplished that goal in style by winning the Premier League Golden Boot this campaign, beating the likes of Jamie Vardy and Sergio Aguero to the award.
Kane will be playing in his first ever major international tournament. Despite not having the experience of playing in a tournament of this magnitude before he has the confidence and ability to continue his goalscoring form.
With fellow teammates Dele Alli and Eric Dier also most likely to make the starting XI their understanding will be key to England’s success and Kane will be looking to use that to his advantage.
Kane only managed 3 goals in the group stages but is expected to kick it up a notch in the tournament.
