Euro 2016: SK's team of the tournament

The Euro 2016 tournament was one to remember for the fans and it threw up plenty of twists and turns with a number of teams upsetting the form book. In the end, it was Portugal who triumphed 1-0 over France in an intriguing final.

There were plenty of brilliant individual performances right through the tournament and it was no easy task to pick the team of the tournament. Lots of established stars and new ones took the tournament by storm and we attempt to pick the best XI keeping in mind their performances throughout this tournament.

Goalkeeper

Rui Patricio pulled off some stunning saves in the tournament

The position between the sticks was a toss-up between Portugal’s Rui Patricio and France’s Hugo Lloris. Both the goalkeepers had an excellent tournament, but Rui Patricio just edges out Lloris thanks to his brilliant performance in the final.

In a tournament where the goalkeepers have excelled, it was pretty apt that it was the custodian of the champions who produced a phenomenal performance in between the sticks. He pulled off save after save, notable ones being Sissoko’s two fierce strikes and Antoine Griezmann’s floating header which he tipped over.

With a man of the match performance in the final and good performances right throughout the tournament, Rui Patricio deserves to be the goalkeeper of this team.
