EURO2020 - Could Brazil, Argentina and other nations be invited?

The European football governing body UEFA is considering a revolutionary concept of inviting non-European teams to the 2020 European Championships, which would be played across the continent and not in one or two countries.

The British newspaper The Independent reported yesterday that South American sides like Brazil and Argentina, North American teams like the United States and Mexico besides teams from Asia like Japan could be invited to the 2020 European Championships.

The 2020 European Championship will be played across 13 cities in 13 countries across the European continent as a one-off to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the European Football Championship.

And in connection with the 2020 tournament, there are loads of new ideas and concepts being mentioned with the latest being that top nations from other confederations to be invited to the tournament like the CONMEBOL (South American) does for the Copa America to make their tournament a 12 team competition.

But why such an idea is being considered for Europe isn’t known though there are speculations going in all kind of directions with some saying UEFA wants to compete with the FIFA World Cup by creating an own mini World Cup, others say Platini is preparing his bid to become the new FIFA president in 2015.

Others say UEFA wants to counter any consideration by FIFA to reduce the number of European teams playing in a 32 team FIFA World Cup from the current 13 nations.

One can only wait and see how this idea disappears or sticks around to then happen.
