European Football Roundup – Part 2: Real Madrid scrape through, Dortmund continue winning start

In late kickoffs, the rest of the games around were played, with results more or less panning out as expected.

In Spain, Real Madrid kicked off their La Liga campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Real Betis. Molina drew first blood for Betis with a goal in the 14th minute, but Madrid fought back and levelled it 10 minutes later with the help of Benzema. Thereafter, both sides created chances but couldn’t put the finishing touch, until Isco scored the winning goal for Madrid in the 86th minute.

In Italy, Juventus took on Lazio for the Italian Super Cup and ran out easy 4-0 winners, with goals from Pogba, Chiellini, Lichtsteiner and Tevez.

PSG continue to flounder in the French Ligue 1, drawing the game against Ajaccio 1-1. Ajaccio took the lead as early as the 10th minute through Pedretti and held on to it till the final minutes of the game. PSG managed to score the equaliser in the 86th minute, with the help of Cavani’s strike.

In Germany, Borussia Dortmund picked up a 2-1 win over Eint. Braunschweig, with goals from Hofman and Reus. Though Eint. Braunschweig managed to pull one back in the dying minutes of the game with the help of a strike from Kevin Kratz, it was not enough to take away any points back home.
