Everton's Roberto Martinez reveals Manchester United target Leighton Baines is not for sale
The Daily Mirror report that Everton manager Roberto Martinez has revealed that the club are yet to open talks over a new deal with Leighton Baines.
Baines has 18 months left on his contract and has Manchester United circling in on him, but Martinez has claimed it will take a lot of money to take Baines away from Everton.
The Blues want to keep Baines but are willing to negotiate with United in the January transfer window if the reigning champions are willing to go above £20 million.
“If I want a player I need to match the valuation to then put the other club and the player in a situation to make a decision.
“We have never been in a situation where the valuation has been matched with Leighton.
“As a club we don’t need the money. We don’t need to balance the books and that is a situation we wanted to have – to make football decisions, not financial decisions.
“We don’t want to sell Leighton. When you are in a position when you have to bring money then are relying on what you can sell. We are not in that position.”
Baines has created 15 chances in the Premier League this season. He’s trailing Kevin Mirallas by 12, perhaps signalling a change in style at Everton.
