Rumour: Everton look to Croatia star Ivan Perisic ahead of European challenge
Wolfsburg and Croatia midfielder Ivan Perisic has emerged as a transfer target for Everton as the Toffees look to strengthen their squad for the Europa League next season.
The Daily Mail report that Perisic, who can either play out wide or through the middle, could be sold by Wolfsburg for a fee of around £8 million. Perisic has only been with Wolfsburg for 18 months but with his current club looking at other players, they would be relatively happy to sell.
Everton performed well above expectations under new boss Roberto Martinez this season and they were unlucky to miss out on the Champions League.
Martinez signed a new five year deal recently, signalling his intention to build a legacy at Everton and his primary objective is to qualify for Europe’s premier competition.
Perisic is a player with proven European pedigree and he would add a goal threat to their midfield. The midfielder is currently with his national team as they undertake their World Cup campaign. Croatia lost their opening match against Brazil 3-1 and they now need to get results against Mexico and Cameroon to stand any chance of progressing to the next round.
With 10 league goals, Ivan Perisic scored more than any of Everton’s midfielders this season.
