Everton defeated Serie A champions Juventus on penalties in San Francisco

Everton held their nerve to beat Juventus on penalties in their International Champions Cup match in San Francisco, after the sides were locked 1-1 after 90 minutes level.

Kwadwo Asamoah’s pile driver for Juve in the 80 minute cancelled out Kevin Mirallas’s goal which put Everton ahead on 61 minute.

The match then went straight to the penalties after 90 minutes, with Leon Osman and Andrea Pirlo missing his spot-kick each.

Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard’s heroics in sudden-death gave Roberto Martinez’ side a 6-5 spot-kick win.

Earlier in the match, an early Steven Pienaar free-kick was disallowed, while John Stones hit the post with a header just before half-time.

The Italian champions introduced Carlos Tevez after his summer signing from Manchester City, and he played 83 minutes for Turin based side.

Now Everton will face the winners of Thursday’s match between Real Madrid and LA Galaxy in Los Angeles.
