English club Everton unveiled a new club crest in a press conference on Thursday.

The club’s current crest will cease to exist after the current season. This will be the first time since 1978 that the Liverpool-based club would have changed their crest.

Everton had initially designed another crest, which came under severe criticism from fans, 91% of whom voted negatively in a poll conducted by an Everton fan site.

The club then decided on a poll, giving Everton fans three options to choose from. The winning crest won 78.18% of the vote.

Speaking on the occasion, Everton Director of Communications Alan Myers said: “I’d like to thank all supporters who took part in an extensive crest redesign process.

“Everton listened to its fans and the fans have spoken. I look forward to seeing the crest on the shirt, the stadium, merchandise and the website,” added Myers.

The club’s official website stated that this change was necessary “to meet modern day challenges.”
