Everton's balance key to getting results - Baines
REUTERS - Everton's ability to both find the net and prevent the opposition from scoring have been key components in their recent run of impressive Premier League form, defender Leighton Baines has said.
Seventh-placed Everton have not conceded in seven of their last 10 league games, scoring 26 goals and suffering just one defeat in that run.
"By keeping a clean sheet, you obviously give yourself a chance of winning a game and if you can get a handful of goals, brilliant," Baines told the club's website.
"It's not often you get both at the same time so we are obviously doing something right. When you are finding a way to do both of those things, you are invariably going to be winning games."
The Merseyside club's impressive run has given them an outside chance of qualifying for next season's Champions League as they look to move within three points of fourth-placed Liverpool when the city rivals meet on Saturday.
"More organisation, more structure, more responsibility. It's about doing your job and the right thing for the team," the 32-year-old Baines said.
"It's a tough league to play in... but if you have got everyone singing from the same hymn sheet and willing to put in the hard yards then it at least gives you a chance."
