Ex-Everton player Kensella guilty of using banned drug; banned for two years
Fleetwood Town midfielder Gerard Kinsella has tested positive for the banned anabolic steroid Nandrolone, as reported by the Telegraph.
Kinsella has admitted to using the drug as a medication for pain relief following a string of shoulder injuries, and is now banned from football for two years as a punishment.
The ex-Everton player was administered the substance by his cousin Neil who, believing that the drug was Durabolin, assured him that it will not be a breach of anti-doping regulations.
However, the steadfast Football Association regulatory commission is holding their grounds and has come down heavily on the player’s negligence in not checking with the club doctor.
Kinsella is highly accident-prone and has been at the receiving end of long list of injuries that include ankle injuries, a broken metatarsal and three shoulder dislocations while at Everton. During the 2011-2012, he was sidelined due to a knee injury while on trial at Plymouth.
Last year, he entered into a two-year contract with Fleetwood, but given the current situation, it is highly unlikely that the player will get to see any action.
