Ex-Manchester United manager David Moyes reveals Toni Kroos snubbed the Red Devils

Manchester United wanted to bring Toni Kroos to Old Trafford whilst he was at Bayern Munich

David Moyes' Manchester United time has been miserable as he failed to deliver, both in the transfer window and also in terms of results. The Scot has gone on to reveal that he wanted to bring Toni Kroos to Old Trafford.

The German international was heavily linked to join the Red Devils and the reports suggested that Moyes had met with the midfielder's agent in order to convince him to join the Premier League giants.

Kroos was at Bayern Munich and had rejected a chance to sign a new deal and he was attracting interest from United in the second half of the 2013-14 season. Moyes was shown the exit door in April 2014 and was replaced by Louis van Gaal.

The Dutchman was not interested in signing Kroos and the 26-year-old, who impressed for Germany in the FIFA 2014 World Cup in Brazil - which they won after defeating Argentina in the final - joined Real Madrid the same summer.

Moyes had identified Kroos as a perfect replacement for Paul Scholes, who retired for the second time at United along with the Red Devils' legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.

"I wanted to bring Kroos to Manchester United, from Bayern. I thought his range of passing and his ability to play people in would have made him a top United player, maybe Scholes’ heir. He’s gone on and shown at Real Madrid what a fantastic footballer he is," Moyes wrote in his The Sunday Times column.

"He seems to nearly play at half speed and that’s because his positioning is so good – he moves into areas where it’s hard for opponents to get at him or where he can help team-mates out. He’s always there to receive the ball. Maybe tracking back and regaining possession isn’t his biggest strength but you put him in your team for the passes and the decisions he makes."

Kroos is currently with German national side in the ongoing European championship in France. The world champions have made it to the last eight of the Euro 2016 and Moyes claims it will be an upset if Germany fails to make it to the semi-final of the tournament.

"... it would be a shock if they won again. Very rarely do Germany fail to make the semi-finals of tournaments and with Kroos at the controls that’s the minimum I expect here," the former United manager added.
