Rumour: Exit-bound Chelsea star Samuel Eto'o demands £60k-a-week from Roma

Striker Samuel Eto’o has demanded a contract worth £60,ooo-a-week if he is to complete a move to Serie A side Roma, report the Express.

The Cameroon international, who is set for an early flight home from the World Cup following his nation’s brace of defeats to Mexico and Croatia in Group A, is due to become a free agent once his contract with Chelsea expires.

Although the veteran forward did not endure a wholly unsuccessful season with the west Londoners, manager Jose Mourinho has made no secret of his desire to add a marquee signing to his front line.

Meanwhile, it is expected Diego Costa will complete a move from Atletico Madrid to Chelsea, which will spell the end of Eto’o's stint with the Blues.

He has received a number of offers from across Europe, as well as closer to home with Arsenal reportedly interested. Though the Gunners have already been linked with a big-money bid for Mario Balotelli, they are arguably in need of more than one traditional forwards to bolster Arsene Wenger’s squad.

However, Italian outfit Roma believed to be front runners to secure his signature. However, Eto’o's pay demands of £60,000-a-week could scupper a potential deal, with Rudi Garcia’s side not prepared to break the bank to complete the transfer.

Despite concerns over his age, the African would be a welcome addition to many squads across the continent but could have to reduce his wage expectations if he desires a move to a prestigious club.

Samuel Eto’o scored nine goals in 21 appearances for Chelsea in the Premier League last season.
