FA Cup fifth round draw: Manchester City drawn with Chelsea, United handed favourable draw
The fifth round draw of the FA Cup took place soon after Chelsea’s 5-1 rout of MK Dons in their fourth round fixture at Milton Keynes. With most of the fourth round fixtures completed, the draw for the FA Cup fifth round took place in the BBC studio as Mark Lawrenson and Ruud Hullit drew the fixtures with Mark Chapman overseeing the proceedings.
The blockbuster fixture of the round is indoubtedly Chelsea hosting Manchester City at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea manager Guss Hiddink remarking ‘It’s already a final’ in his post-match press conference.
Manchester United were drawn away to League One minnows Shrewsbury Town, the lowest ranked team remaining in the draw, thus earning the Red Devils a favourable draw after they got past Derby County in the previous round.
The defending FA Cup champions, Arsenal were drawn against Hull City at home, the third time in as many seasons that the two sides have met in the FA Cup, most notably in the 2013/14 FA Cup final, where Arsenal triumped 3-2.
Liverpool or West Ham will face an away trip to Ewood Park, after the two Premier League sides play their replay to decide who goes through to face Blackburn Rovers. Elsewhere, Premier League sides Tottenham and Crystal Palace were drawn together, while Bournemouth host Everton in the third all-Premier League clash of the FA Cup fifth round.
