Faith Terim appointed interim Turkey manager
The Turkish Football Federation have announced that Galatasaray managerĀ Faith Terim will manage the Turkish national sideĀ on a one-year deal which sees him replace Abdullah Avci as Turkey manager, reports Inside Futbol.
The 59-year-old will combine his duties for the Istanbul club with the job of trying to take Turkey to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
“We thought we needed an experienced coach who is hungry for success and that would solve our problems and so we negotiated with Terim”, said TFF president Yildirim Demiroren in a statement.
Terim has previously had two spells as Turkey manager, the first from 1993-96 and the second from 2005-09.
Turkey are currently 4th in Group D of the European zone of the 2014 World Cup qualification zone with 7 points from six matches, 3 points behind 3rd placed Romania and 4 behind 2nd placed Hungary.
Holland are seemingly out of reach, maintaining a 100% record to take 18 points from their 6 games. Turkey need to improve drastically as the 8 best group runners-up will play off for the 4 remaining European spots, with the 9 group stage winners gaining automatic promotion to the World Cup Finals.
