Falcao set for medical ahead of £50m Monaco move
Star-striker Radamel Falcao is set to undergo a medical ahead of his £50m move to FC Monaco. The Colombian was linked to a host of top European clubs but Ligue-2 winners Monaco seem to have won the race for his signature.
Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has already hinted that Falcao might leave at the end of the season and Sunday night’s match against Real Mallorca at the Vicente Calderon is looking increasingly likely to be his last home game. The forward has been in red-hot form this season scoring 28 goals in 34 league appearances for the Rojiblancos.
The French club have struggled in the recent years and were relegated in 2010-11 season after finishing 18th in Ligue 1. But after hiring former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri, who’s guided the team back to Ligue 1, Russian Billionaire owner Dmitry Rybolovlev is ready to break the bank to secure European qualification in their first season back in the top-flight. Monaco have already signed Porto-duo James Rodriguez and Joao Moutinho for a combined fee of £60m million.
Monaco assistant coach Jean Petit said on Friday, “Yes, we are expecting Falcao and four or five other players of his quality.
“We have spoken and we continue to speak with Falcao and his representatives, negotiations are ongoing. We hope to seal a deal as soon as possible.
“Monaco need a player like Falcao because he can help us a lot and because he can attract other top players, and that’s the best way of confirming out project is big and interesting.
“Signing Falcao is a big coup on sporting and media levels for French football.”
