Fans vote for team of 2013 on official Premier League website

Everton’s English full back Leighton Baines and Phil Jagielka (L) make it to the team of the year 2013

The official website of the Premier League set about trying to discover who the users think are entitled to make it to the league’s team of the year for 2013.

Approximately 21,000 voted over a nine day poll on the website, for a team of 11 and one ever present manager, in the traditional 4-4-2 formation. All those eligible for selection had to have played or managed throughout the calender year, which meant the likes of transferred Gareth Bale and retired legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson were out of contention.

Usual suspects, goal scoring machines Sergio Aguero and Luis Suarez make the two up top after having stellar campaigns for Manchester City and Liverpool respectively.

In midfield, Liverpool’s captain fantastic Steven Gerrard grabs a spot alongside creative playmaker Micheal Carrick, who is the sole warrior from Manchester United. Rejuvenated Aaron Ramsey is rewarded for his sublime form for Arsenal, and Manchester City powerhouse Yaya Toure, deservedly, bags the final slot.

The defence is dominated by the Evertonians, with buckeneering right back Seamus Coleman and lethal left footed left back Leighton Baines voted in for the full back spots. The rocks at the center are England international Phil Jagielka and tall German Gunner Per Mertesacker. Shot stopper Tim Howard was trusted in goal, to make Everton the highest represented club of this elite group.

Arsene Wenger got the much coveted manager of the year after he led the Gunners to the highest points tally in the league in 2013  of 82.
