Fernando Torres might not start against Juventus
According to The Daily Mirror, Chelsea Manager Roberto Di Matteo has suggested that he might choose to field a Chelsea side without misfiring Fernando Torres for Tuesday night’s crucial Champions League game against Italian side Juventus.
The Spanish striker has scored just one goal in the past six weeks, and he looks set to resume warming the bench that became quite frequent last season, in Chelsea’s biggest game of the season so far.
“We will have to assess the whole team and see how everybody is, and how they have recovered,” Di Matteo said.
“But if I believe it is the right thing to do for the team, then yeah, I will leave him out. I thought when we moved Daniel [Sturridge] up there he looked a danger [against West Brom]. He had a very good chance saved by the keeper and another put wide. He was always a threat to the defence – we need to score goals,” he added.
With Chelsea looking to bolster their strike force in the January transfer window, there have been rumours of Torres’ departure from the club, with some even suggesting a swap deal for Radamel Falcao from Atletico Madrid. This news will only add fuel to the fire.
