Fernando Torres retires: Best XI to have played with the Spaniard

Fernando Torres is one of the best strikers of his generation. 'El Nino', as he was nicknamed, will forever be remembered as the man who put an end to Spain's 44-year long wait for a major international trophy.
Fernando Torres started his career at Atletico Madrid and was named the captain of the side when he was just 19. The striker then moved on to join Liverpool 2007 before controversially making the move to London to join Chelsea in 2011.
Four years with Chelsea was followed by a trip to Milan to join AC Milan before returning back to his boyhood club Atletico Madrid in 2014. After 3 and a half seasons Torres bid farewell to Atleti before joining J-League side Sagan Tosu in 2018. The 35-year old spent 2 seasons with the Japanese side before calling it a day.
Fernando Torres made a total of 866 career appearances scoring 298 goals for both club and country. The Spaniard won the FA Cup, Europa League, Champions League, 2 European Championships and the World Cup during his career. The 35-year old greatest regret though will forever be his inability to win a domestic league title with any of his clubs.
Here, we take a look at the best XI that El Nino has played alongside.
Goalkeeper
Iker Casillas

Fernando Torres has been lucky enough to have played under many great goalkeepers during his playing career. The 35-year old played with Petr Cech during his time at Stamford Bridge, he played with Pepe Reina in Liverpool and Spain and recently with Jan Oblak during his return to Atletico Madrid.
Iker Casillas, though, will remain the best shot-stopper to have played with the striker. The Porto goalkeeper and Torres were part of the golden generation of Spain that took the World by storm. The duo won 2 European Championships and the World Cup together before and were teammates between 2003 and 2014.
