Ferran Torres pays heartfelt tribute to his late grandmother after scoring for Barcelona against Shakhtar Donetsk in UCL fixture

Barcelona forward Ferran Torres dedicated his goal against Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, October 25, to his late grandmother.

The Spaniard was on target against the Ukrainian side at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys on Wednesday, breaking the deadlock for the Catalans in the 28th minute.

Fermin Lopez's initial effort came off the pole and Torres was in a good position to smash home the rebound as Barcelona took the lead.

In his celebrations, Torres lifted up his shirt with a heartwarming message for his grandmother, who passed away earlier this week. His shirt read:

"This one is for you, grandma."

It's been a tough year for Torres off the field, who also lost his grandfather at the start of 2023. However, the Spanish winger has performed admirably on the pitch for Barcelona.

This season, he has scored five goals in 12 games, including his strike tonight, which was his second goal in two consecutive matches in the Champions League.

Torres, who joined Barcelona from Manchester City in 2021, needs just two more goals to equalize his tally from his previous two campaigns at the club, and three more to set a personal best with the Catalans.

In 83 appearances so far for Barcelona, Torres has scored 19 goals in all competitions (and 10 assists) and won two titles, La Liga and the Spanish Supercup.

Barcelona's Ferran Torres on track for his best season

Since bursting onto the scene with Valencia in 2017 as a teenager, Ferran Torres has been rated as one of Europe's most talented young guns. His eye-catching displays at Valencia earned him a big-money move to Manchester City, but soon after that, Barcelona came knocking.

However, all this while, Torres has managed to score more than 10 goals in a single campaign just once - 13 in the 2020-21 season with City.

But now, he's on track to register his career-best tally. The Spaniard is already on five goals for the season after just 12 games. Over the next seven months, Torres must score nine more times to set a new personal best.

That's very much achievable if he maintains this form, as the 23-year-old is currently oozing tremendous flair and confidence in his performances.
