Five Managers who could replace Andre Villas-Boas at Tottenham Hotspur
Following AVB’s sacking barely 24 hours after a humiliating home defeat against Liverpool, Tottenham are on the lookout for another manager to take his place. Whilst the Portuguese manager was without a doubt their best manager in the Premier League, having won over 53% of his games, his side’s start to the season was far from ideal. And although the team have the most clean sheets in the League, two huge defeats in the space of five matches were just too much for the Spurs board as they decided that it was time for a change.
With over £100 million spent over the summer, the Spurs faithful demanded some free flowing attacking football, true to their traditions. But, Spurs have hardly been prolific in the League and that certainly didn’t help matters. Whilst they were rock solid in the opening 11 games conceding just 6 goals, they ended up conceding 15 in their previous five matches and that couple with their goal-shy attack was enough for the board to say enough was enough.
With AVB out, Spurs will be looking at somebody to take the club to where they think it belongs and although Tim Sherwood, the club’s Technical co-ordinator is set to take charge in the game against West Ham in the Capital One Cup, they will be looking for a full-time manager to take them through the rest of the season. Whilst the list of potential candidates is long, those available right away isn’t. So, let us look at who they can snap up before it’s too late.
Fabio Capello
The Italian, who is currently the manager of Russia is the man who is tipped by most bookies as one of the favorites to land the Spurs job. Whilst it is true that Capello is busy preparing his Russian side for battle in the World Cup next summer, he might well be open to managing until the end of the season.
Aside from that, he is also someone who has plenty of previous experience working alongside technical director Franco Baldini, having working with him during his spells at Roma, Real Madrid and England. All of which mean that the board will be more inclined to give him the hot seat given his familiarity with the technical director.
