East Bengal have the most fans on Facebook
Social media is becoming an integral part of the communication and interaction of football clubs with their fans. While in some leagues from the world the tracking of social media interaction has become normal, I took a first look at the numbers as I wanted to know for myself what kind of following the 14 I-League clubs have on Facebook.Here is the latest instalment and a healthy growth can be seen with most clubs!The I-League itself has an official fan page under www.facebook.com/ILeagueOfficial which now has 6,762 followers.
While doing the research for this follow-up article, it was interesting to continue to see the gulf of fan following between the 13 I-League clubs and how serious these clubs take updating their followers through Facebook.
By far the biggest fan following on Facebook has East Bengal Club with over 947,000 followers, while promoted Mohammedan Sporting Club have no fans as the club has no official Facebook fanpage. Besides East Bengal, clubs like Mohun Bagan AC, Shillong Lajong FC and Pune FC are doing a lot on social media and their Facebook followers are growing constantly.
