FA Cup: Manchester United 1-1 West Ham United : Player Ratings
Manchester United played gracious hosts to West Ham in their FA Cup Quarter Final tie. West Ham opened the scoring with a world-class free kick from an in form Dimitri Payet. An 83rd-minute equalizer arrived from Anthony Martial for Manchester United as the game ended in a stalemate. The Red Devils will now head to Upton Park for a replay as they look to settle scores with West Ham for a place in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
Here’s a look at the Player Ratings from Old Trafford.
Manchester United
David De Gea – 7/10
A familiar pattern erupted at Old Trafford, as De Gea formed a major portion of Manchester United’s effort on the evening making a sublime save right at the end to save the day and ensure that the Manchester Club are in the Semi-Final draw till scores are settled at Upton Park. He was helpless for the goal which came from an inch perfect free kick.
Guillermo Varela – 7/10
One of the players on the pitch whose positives outweighed the negatives, Varela offered energy, dynamism and a lot of graft for an otherwise bullied backline.
Daley Blind – 6/10
Not an easy outing for Daley Blind by any means. The Dutch international managed to keep things in check but Andy Carroll was visibly causing him problems.
Chris Smalling – 6/10
Not an accomplished performance from Chris Smalling but did well to keep a robust West Ham forward line in check along with Daley Blind’s aide.
Marcos Rojo – 5/10
Visibly lacking on the quality front, the Argentine’s performance had energy to it but doesn’t inspire confidence and calm in most people. He did have an important contribution to the game as it wore on but could’ve as easily cost his team.
Michael Carrick – 6/10
Michael Carrick, back in the line-up, did not set the game alight and was guilty of being overrun in midfield. A better performance overall from the Englishman saw him getting through the game without incident.
Marouane Fellaini - 5/10
A ticking time bomb of a performance from the Belgian again, which could’ve cost his team in crucial points in the game. The arm to Kouyate’s face was easily avoidable. Fellaini’s lack of match fitness was apparent and he was at fault at times for letting West Ham gain control of midfield too easily.
Jese Lingard – 6/10
Jese Lingard had an ordinary first half and he failed to have any impact on the game before the second half. Quick feet and great movement in the second half, saw him draw fouls from several West Ham players.
Ander Herrera – 7/10
Herrera was a constant threat for this Manchester United side in the game. He had a few shots superbly blocked, was off target a few times and even set up the goal for his teammate Martial.
Anthony Martial – 7/10
Hardly his best performance, Anthony Martial still looked like United’s most likely goal threat all game. Hardly a surprise that his hold up play and eventual finish leveled it up for Manchester United in the end. A solid performance from the Frenchman.
Marcus Rashford – 5/10
Marcus Rashford was unable to impact the game much. He clearly needs to work on the physical side of his game. West Ham were able to limit his impact largely and keep him quiet all game.
Substitutes
Bastian Schweinsteiger – 6/10
Bastian affected changes in the Manchester United setup after being subbed on. The team immediately showed greater energy and drive. He played his part in setting up the equalizer.
Memphis Depay – 6/10
Memphis showed great energy after coming on. He didn’t get to impact the game much but added much-needed purpose to a Manchester United attack chasing the game.
Matteo Darmian – NA
