Rumour: Real Madrid to bid £70m for Liverpool's Luis Suarez

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez

Real Madrid have prioritised Liverpool’s Luis Suarez as their main transfer target for the summer, as Florentino Perez is ready to splash £70m in order to land the Uruguayan in Spain.

The Anfield hitman had a career-best season with the Reds as he netted 31 goals for the Premier League outfit. He was the recipient of two prestigious awards including the PFA Player of the Year award and Football Writers’ Player of the Season award.

And his scintillating display has convinced Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, who reportedly met with director general Jose Angel Sanchez and club president Florentino Perez to agree that Suarez should be Madrid's primary target when the transfer window opens.

Suarez, who recently underwent a knee surgery, has a four-and-a-half year contract with Liverpool. The striker put pen to paper in December and sealed a deal worth £200,000 a week with a speculated £70m release clause included in the contract.

Last summer, Suarez tried to force a move away from Merseyside as Arsenal coughed up £40m for the forward in order to land him at the Emirates. But Liverpool rejected their offer.

The Anfield owners will be looking to do the same in this case as well and try to hold to to their biggest trump card for the Champions League next season.

Earlier, Suarez revealed that he is glad to stay with Liverpool and his current focus is with the national team ahead of their World Cup campaign.

“My head now is focused on the World Cup,” he said.

“My agent tells me what’s there. It’s more speculation than reality,” added the Uruguayan.

Real Madrid based newspaper, Marca, have already featured the news of Real’s Suarez interest on their front page. It is believed that Marca are using the same method they applied when Crsitiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale were linked to a move with the Bernebau outfit.
