Mid-game formation change worked well for us, says Mumbai City FC Assistant Coach Oscar Bruzon

Mumbai city FC assistant coach Oscar Bruzon does not think fatigue will be a big issue for his side in the next game

Mumbai City FC trounced league leaders FC Goa 2-0 in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) game in Mumbai on Sunday thanks to goals from Sunil Chhetri and Frederic Piquionne on either side of half time. The Mumbaikars were the better team in the game as FC Goa’s defence was found wanting against the attacking flair of Mumbai City FC.

However it was the visitors who started the game more brightly and Mumbai City FC assistant coach Oscar Bruzon believes that FC Goa’s quick start prompted him and Anelka to alter their formation. That change in formation did the trick for Mumbai City FC in the end, but Bruzon credited his players who according to him adapted to the change very well.

“FC Goa were the better team in the first twenty minutes. We started with 4-4-2, but that caused us a few problems and hence asked Sony to go back to his position on the left and switched to the formation that we used last time out. We started to control the ball a lot better since then and that helped us to win the game eventually,” said Bruzon.

Mumbai City FC now face NorthEast United on Wednesday and have just two days to recover and prepare for the game. But Oscar Bruzon dismissed any suggestions of fatigue being a factor in that game.

“NorthEast United have to travel for seventy-two hours to get here. We start our recovery from today and won’t be training tomorrow. So I am not worried about the schedule,” the Spanish coach said.

Mumbai City FC who have managed to strike a winning combination in the last two matches, but matches coming in quick succession may force Mumbai City FC to rotate their team. But coach Oscar Bruzon insists that his side possess enough depth to deal with it.

“When we say our team, we always refer to 25 players and not the 14 who play on the pitch. We are not worried about changing the line-up as we are confident in our players, who are capable of striking a winning combination,” the Mumbai City FC assistant coach said.

The former Sporting Club de Goa coach Oscar Bruzon, hailed Sunil Chhetri’s impact on the team and called him a ‘big player’ in the team. “Sunil has great qualities and is a big player for us, there is no hiding that.

“In the first game he struggled with his fitness, but since the last game he has played very well. We always believed that he would add great quality to our side and he is proving that right,” said Bruzon as he heaped praise on the Indian international who bagged his third goal of the season in the win against FC Goa.
