Former Brazil captain Lucio signs for Indian Super League side FC Goa

Lucio lifted the  2009 Confederations Cup as the captain of the Brazilians

Former Brazil captain, Lucio, will play for FC Goa in the second edition of the Indian Super League according to co-owner Shrinivas Dempo. Lucio, who has played all across Europe in major clubs and has won everything that there is to win will be seen in the Goan club’s colours this season.

Lucio has three German League and Cup doubles with Bayern Munich, a League, Cup and Champions League treble with Inter Milan and a Supercoppa Italiana with Juventus. Along with his club exploits Lucio won the 2002 World Cup with Brazil and was one of only three players to play every minute of the tournament.

He has more than a 100 caps for his country having scored 4 goals as well. One of the four goals was the winning goal in the 2009 Confederations Cup final where Brazil came back from two goals down to win the game 3-2.

Lucio has been brought in on Zico’s recommendation

“Lucio has been signed as the marquee player for FC Goa as he was strongly recommended by Zico,” Shrinivas Dempo was quoted saying to The Nevhind Times. “We have also signed another Brazilian Andreas and are looking forward for more signings that will boost the squad.”

Lucio, 37, is known as a strong and effective defender who is excellent in the air at both ends of the field. As an experienced head in defence, he might just be the missing piece that Zico and FC Goa missed last time.
