Former Brazil coach Dunga on European radar

Rio de Janeiro, Sep 17 (IANS): Brazil’s 1994 World Cup-winning captain Dunga is reportedly eyeing a coaching job with an elite European club next season.

The 49-year-old, now coach of Brazilian top-flight side Internacional, is seeking a move following the end of the Campeonato Brasileiro campaign in December.

“There is the expectation that top European clubs like Inter Milan, or even Japanese teams, will do all they can to sign him,” the newspaper said.

The report added that Inter Milan had been close to signing the former midfielder in June.

Under Dunga’s stewardship Internacional have risen to fifth in the Campeonato Brasileiro standings, one point from fourth-placed Atletico Paranaense.

Dunga, who won 91 caps for Brazil between 1987 and 1998, coached Brazil to victory at the 2007 Copa America.

He was sacked as national coach following the Selecao’s quarterfinal defeat to the Netherlands at the 2010 World Cup.
