Former Brazil striker Tulio scores 1,000th goal
Rio de Janeiro, Feb 9: Former Brazil international striker Tulio Maravilha scored his 1,000th career goal, joining compatriots Pele and Romario in achieving the feat.
The 44-year-old reached the milestone Saturday by converting a first-half penalty for Araxa in their 2-1 victory over Mamore in the second division of the Minas Gerais state league, reports Xinhua.
“I am ecstatic at the number of people who have come here to give me all of their positive energy. I want to thank them and repay them by scoring more goals,” Tulio said.
Tulio represented Brazil 15 times from 1990-95 and scored 13 goals. He was a member of the Selecao side that finished second to Uruguay at the 1995 Copa America. He is mostly remembered for his spell at Botafogo between 1994-96 when he netted 55 goals from 73 matches and helped the club win the 1995 league title.
