Franck Ribery - Bayern Munich's best player of the season

Bayern Munich had a particularly good season this year. While the credit for their record-breaking season can be distributed among the entire star ensemble of Munich, there is one particular name that warrants special mention. It is not fair to single out one player’s contribution above the rest but if it had to be done, then Ribery would be at the head of the queue.

With a total of ten goals and fourteen assists to his name, the French international was responsible for more than his fair share of goals and assists in the his team’s whopping 98-goal Bundesliga tally. His goals alone don’t begin to cover how much of a stunner he was this season. Toss in his impressive defensive legwork, his inimitable raids down and his cutting-in techniques, and you have a performance that can be described only as “absolutely world class”, in the words of Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Ribery, 30, has come a long way from the hotheaded prima donna that he was to a dependable on-field leader figure.

He has been with Munich since the summer of 2007, and has recently expressed his desire to extend his current contract beyond 2015 in the hopes of playing out the rest of his days with the German side.

Munich’s resigning coach Jupp Heynckes, under whom Ribery has managed to peak to his current heights, had this to say about the French No. 7: “Franck’s got an insatiable appetite for success.”

He sure does!
