Gareth Bale claims he is least interested in winning the Ballon d'Or
Gareth Bale the Real Madrid forward quite robustly said that he is not really interested in individual awards like the Ballon d’Or. The Welshman’s teammate Cristiano Ronaldo fell second to Lionel Messi for the prestigious award, the ceremony for which took place last night. Messi’s teammate Neymar finished third in the Ballon D’Or race after the voting.
However, the 26-year-old feels that his sole aim is to help the team win more titles and the individual awards are of no importance.
"Individual awards – I don't think about them at all, they’re nothing that I want to think about. It’s for other people to sort out themselves.
"For me, I just want to work hard for the team and try to win as many titles as I can," he said.
In his last game, Bale scored a hat-trick in Real Madrid’s 5-0 win over Deportivo la Coruna. It was Madrid’s first game with Zinedine Zidane as the manager and they had a comfortable win. The other two goals came from Karim Benzema.
Bale has scored eight goals in his last four games for Real Madrid. Reports were doing the rounds that Bale was apparently disturbed after the sacking of Rafa Benitez. It is understood that Benitez was building a team around Bale and the Welsh international had his hopes high.
Bale was rumoured to be unsettled after Benitez’s sacking
With Zidane taking charge the general understanding was that Bale would not be given so much importance. But Zidane, once he took reigns of Bernabeu declared that Bale is very important for the kind of team that the Frenchman wants to build. Then in his first match with Zidane, Bale scored three goals, which has done a lot to uplift his spirits and his confidence.
Swirling rumours also suggest that Manchester United are after the winger, with Louis Van Gaal keen on landing up pacey wingers who can bring width in the United attack.
Bale wants to take life easy and does not really have an interest in the Ballon d’Or ceremony. However, the fact remains that Gareth Bale has a long way to go and has done nothing whatsoever which makes him in any way eligible for a prestigious award such as the Ballon d’Or.
