German fourth-tier club promises Zlatan Ibrahimovic the crown of Oberhausen if he signs for them
In a bizarre statement, German city’s fourth tier football club Rot-Weiss Oberhausen has offered to crown Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the king of Oberhausen if he agrees on a move to the club this summer. The 34-year-old striker had been considering offers since his last match at PSG and this is one of the most unusual offers he has received yet.
The club promised to introduce a monarchy in Oberhausen with Ibrahimovic as the head if he agreed on a two-year contract with them while calling him ‘God’. Apart from this, they also vowed to change the name of a local beer to feature his name and reopen a swimming pool that had been closed for over 20 years according to the need of the striker.
Oberhausen had finished fifth last season and was reportedly in contact with Zlatan, who scored 156 times in the 180 games he played for PSG, as he suited their need for a player who was equally good in the air and on ground. Speaking to the German broadcaster Sport1, club President Hajo Summers said that Oberhausen had much more to offer than many other places. “In a football province like Oberhausen, there are a few things which other places wouldn't have. If he wants to expand his horizons, let him come,” he said.

Rot-Weiss Oberhausen added that it would construct a fresh stand using materials sourced from a Swedish retailer if Ibrahimovic changes to the city and Sommer even agreed to pick him from the airport personally. This sort of chauffeur service had once worked for Manchester United in their bid to sign Dimitar Berbatov, who are rumoured to be close to signing Zlatan this season.
On being asked whether working with Jose Mourinho again would be good, Ibrahimovic had admitted that he still speaks to Jose Mourinho every day and Manchester United player Anthony Martial had said that the Swedish international would be a ‘great’ signing for the Red Devils.
As Manchester United can offer average attendances of over 75,000 compared to the 2,100 Oberhausen pulled in last season and much better financial incentives, it is highly unlikely that he would agree with this move.
But the German club, whose stadium holds 1,426, said that they are 'cautiously optimistic' that he will choose to join them. "In the coming days, the player will decide. We are cautiously optimistic that his decision will be positive," the German minnows concluded.
