Miroslav Klose injured for a month, could miss 2014 FIFA World Cup

German forward Miroslav Klose could miss the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

A goal shy of equaling Brazilian striker Ronaldo’s record of being the World Cup’s all-time goal scorer, Lazio forward Miroslav Klose has been ruled out for a month after sustaining a thigh muscle tear, Lazio’s official website has confirmed.

Klose is Lazio’s top-scorer this season with seven goals to his name from 22 matches in the domestic league, but was excluded from the squad due to his injury on Sunday when Lazio registered a 2-0 victory over Sampdoria.

“Today Miroslav Klose and Alvaro Gonzalez were subject to specialist investigations,” the club stated on their website. “Investigations on Klose showed the presence of a lesion on his left hamstring, [with] the expected recovery time four weeks. Alvaro Gonzalez showed the presence of a lesion on his right thigh.”

Klose is tied with German legend Gerd Müller with 14 goals in his World Cup career, and two more would make him the highest scorer with him overtaking Ronaldo who has 15 goals to his name.

However, the injury will now have now damaged his chances of being selected for for Germany’s World Cup squad, something most of the fans were looking out for.
