Top 5 GIFs of the week: SAS, Neymar at Ballon d'Or, a wondergoal and more

In a new feature at Squawka, we will bring you the top five GIFs of the week, every week, that are floating around the Squawka HQ. We see everything and anything in the world of football and will now bring you the best that we find. Enjoy!

1. Luis Suarez & Daniel Sturridge vs. Stoke City

First up is Luis Suarez’s 22nd goal of the Premier League season. Daniel Sturridge returned from seven weeks out injured to make an instant impact against Stoke City. The Reds had been leading 2-0 but were pegged back with goals from Peter Crouch and Charlie Adam – two former Reds – but Steven Gerrard restored parity with a penalty shortly before Sturridge’s introduction.

In the GIF below, Sturridge displayed a stunning bit of skill to deceive Stoke’s defenders and then flick the ball to Suarez who delightfully passed it beyond Jack Butland.

2. Neymar at the Ballon d’Or

Next up is Neymar who was Mr. Awkward at the recent Ballon d’Or gala. As he walked onto stage, he held out his hand to shake Fernanda Lima’s. She had other ideas, though, instead choosing to tap the back of his arm. Neymar had committed to the handshake though and couldn’t give up, eventually taking part in the most awkward handshake you’re likely to see this week.

3. Jordan Henderson’s crazy celebration

Another Liverpool GIF here as the cameras spotted a peculiar celebration from Jordan Henderson when Raheem Sterling’s goal tied up the recent FA Cup third round match against Oldham at Anfield. I think Henderson got a little excited by this goal… yay.

4. Tottenham backheels

Our fourth GIF of the week is from Tottenham’s last match against Crystal Palace at White Hart Lane. The match will be remembered for Jason Puncheon’s shocking penalty miss but Nabil Bentaleb starred for Spurs in their 2-0 win. He completed 98 passes – the most in the league at the weekend – and was involved in this lovely little passage of backheel passes.

5. Luis Garcia wondergoal vs. Juventus

Finally, Liverpool fans were greeted with the disappointing news earlier this week that Luis Garcia announced his retirement from professional football. He hasn’t played for the club since 2007 but left leaving fond memories. He was an important player as the club won an FA Cup and their fifth European Cup. His goal against Juventus was the highlight of a fantastic run to the final.
