Goa Pro League: Salgaocar FC move to the top with 3-0 win against Goa Velha

Defending champions Salgaocar FC scored a 3-0 victory against Goa Velha SC in the third round of the Goa Professional League match at Duler grounds in Mapusa today, August 18. The Green Brigade’s goals came through Aslon Oliveira, Marcus Mascarenhas and Gilbert Oliveira.

With their third win from as many matches, Salgaocar moved to the top of the Goa Pro League table with nine points and an incredible +17 goal difference having so far conceded no goals, while Goa Velha remain on three points from three matches.

Only a couple of weeks back, the two clubs had met in the GFA Charity Match at the same venue and there Salgaocar FC had won 4-1, today they would repeat their three goal victory margin once more.

Salgaocar were the better side from the start, but after missing an early chance they went ahead in the 27th minute when a Nicolau Colaco pass was put in by Under-20 player Aslon Oliveira. Just before the break, Goa Velha had their best chance of the first session, but Nestor Dias’ free-kick was headed over the crossbar by Blake Haldankar.

Salgaocar, after the break, continued to dominate the match, but Goa Velha had their chances as well like in the 49th minute when a Nestor Dias free-kick was cleared by young goalkeeper Albino Gomes out of danger.

Salgaocar doubled the lead in the 66th minute through a Marcus Mascarenhas header off a Nicolau Colaco cross and they confirmed their win in the 85th minute with their third goal, which substitute Gagandeep Bali set-up for an unmarked Gilbert Oliveira, who simply had to put the ball into the net.
