Gonzalo Higuain says Cristiano Ronaldo has ego issues, Napoli deny he made such quotes
Former Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain has slagged off his ex-teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, branding the Real Madrid star “egotistical”, according to The Mirror. The Argentine forward was quoted by Don Balon after apparently giving an interview with the magazine.
Higuain left Real Madrid back in 2013 and has admitted that he had no fond memories of his time playing alongside Ronaldo. According to the 27-year-old, playing alongside Ronaldo was nothing like playing with his Argentina teammate Lionel Messi.
The Portuguese forward is on the brink of becoming Los Blancos’ all-time record goalscorer in La Liga. However, a lot of questions have been asked about his attitude in the past and he Higuain had a lot to say about his former teammate. He has revealed to his closest friends that Ronaldo would throw a hissy fit in training if he didn’t pass to him.
Ronaldo is overrated: Higuain
The 27-year-old’s move away from the Bernabeu was partly because he was not wanted by the club anymore but he revealed his decision to leave Madrid for Napoli in 2013 was just so he wouldn’t have to pass to Ronaldo all the time.
According to Higuain, the Real Madrid star is not actually as good as he thinks he is.
“He has a lot of ego,” Higuain said, according to Spanish newspaper Sport. “If you don't say he's the best, he's not your friend. Cristiano thinks he's the best, but he's over-rated.
“I've shared a dressing room with Messi and one is nothing like the other.”
Napoli deny Higuain made such quotes
However, Napoli have denied the reports. The Italian giants released a statement denying the interview took place between the striker and Don Balon magazine.
It said: “ The company denies alleged interview Higuain in Don Balon.
“About the alleged statements attributed to Gonzalo Higuain and reported by the magazine Don Balon, Napoli and the striker categorically deny he was ever granted an interview with Don Balon.
“Therefore the sentences attributed to Higuain are considered false and without any foundation.”
Ronaldo wasteful against Malaga
Following Ronaldo’s eight goal thriller in two matches that broke numerous records and, most importantly, his worrying goalscoring drought, the Portuguese forward was left frustrated again after missing a host of chances in their La Liga draw against Malaga at the Bernabeu.
Real Madrid drew 0-0 with Malaga and Ronaldo was wasteful on the night. The 30-year-old needs just one goal to reach a career milestone of 500 goals and two more to surpass Raul as the club’s most prolific goalscorer.
