Euro 2016: Everything you need to know about the Google doodles to celebrate the tournament

Google has always come up with amazing doodles when it comes to featuring any event, be it sports or not. With the Euro 2016 just around the corner, they have once again showcased their creative talent and has now featured not one, but two unique doodles showcasing the international event.

In many ways, the doodles are mini-infographics as it has a lot of information engraved into it implicitly. The first one features 24 flags in total and is displayed on either side of the Google logo. While there are 16 flags on the left, there are only eight on the right of the logo. The logo is also modified in a way that the ‘L’ of Google shaped to look similar to the Eiffel tower with the colours of the French flag on it. The doodle is also set in a lively Parisian landscape. The second one features a rooster announcing the games pointing at the first set of games of the tournament.

The doodles are interactive as well. While the first version features the personified Eiffel tower dribbling a ball happily and the second one shows the rooster jumping on to the roof of a house and declaring the matches and then jumping off the house. Furthermore, the colour combinations used in these doodles mostly point towards one or the other national flags of the competitors.

France are the hosts of the Euro this time around and the tournament will be featuring 24 teams for the first time in its history. The tournament will be held between June 10 and July 10 across France. The designated venues are Paris, Lille, Lyon, Saint-Denis, Nice, Toulouse, Saint-Etienne, Marseille, Bordeaux and Lens. The hosts, France, will kick-start the event on Friday and will take on Romania in their first match. The defending champions Spain will start their campaign on June 13 when they play against the Czech Republic.

Though there are no clear favourites to win the tournament as there are several strong teams, it is worth noting that Germany and Spain have won the tournament the most and might have an edge over the others due to their recent experience in winning international tournaments. Spain won the last Euro when they defeated Italy 4-0 in the final and also became the first team to defend a European championship title.
