Grant Holt gets signed up by Wigan

Experienced striker Grant Holt has been signed by Wigan Athletic from Norwich City, for an undisclosed amount. He is the seventh signing this year for the FA Cup winners and the deal is a three year term.

Its an important signing for Manager Owen Coyle, considering that striker  Arouna Kone had been sold to Everton earlier

“This is a fantastic piece of business for us at a really good price,”

“Grant is a proven goal scorer at every level and he will definitely bring something new to the table that we were missing in the squad.”

“He’s been a hero to the fans at every club he’s been and I know the Norwich fans are sad to see him go, he’s been one of the icons of their success in recent years. But now it’s the Wigan fans’ turn to enjoy him and we’re all delighted he’s coming on board.” Coyle told the club’s official website.

A Glowing tribute was paid to Holt from Chris Hughton, the boss of Norwich, calling him a very important part of the clubs success last season. He wished him all the success at his future club.

Even though he had scored 15 goals in the season of 2011/12, he did fall short of expectations and managed only eight goals last term. There were reports that City manager Chris Hughton was looking for other strikers. Nevertheless he will be considered a valuable asset to his new club considering his reputation as a hardworking professional during his playing days with  Rochdale, Nottingham Forest, Blackpool and Shrewsbury.

Along with Marc-Antoine, Grant should be able to provide for some penetrating attacks for Wigan. Coyle has also brought in Scott Carson, Stephen Crainey, Thomas Rogne, Chris McCann and James Perch to the squad, since he replaced Roberto Martinez.
