Gus Poyet confirms that he will take Brighton to court

Former Uruguay footballer Gus Poyet has confirmed that he will be taking Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club to court.

Gus Poyet, who had joined the club in 2009, was initially suspended after the team’s loss to Crystal Palace in their playoff semi-final, and was subsequently sacked for indiscipline in the month of June.

Tony Bloom, who is chairman of Brighton, has claimed that Poyet had spoken to him in March, and had informed him about his intentions of quitting the club at the end of the season.

Poyet told Sky Sports: “It’s not easy to explain because so many things went on. I think when you’re a manager you get disappointed to get the sack especially when you’re not expecting anything to happen to you and you are happy with the season you have had.

“There are several reasons but unfortunately this will probably go to court. Because I totally disagree with every allegation and accusation the club has put on me.

“I will take action because I think it’s important for me. I’m quite confident and relaxed but I hope we will go to court because it is the best way for the truth to come out.”

There were reports of Poyet having had talks with Reading earlier in March, with a vacancy for their managerial seat after Brian McDermott had quit as manager.
