“Had to do this for a German TV show. Sorry Cris” - Toni Kroos’ hilarious old Instagram comment aimed at Cristiano Ronaldo resurfaces
Toni Kroos's bizarre old Instagram comment on one of Cristiano Ronaldo's posts has resurfaced online. Ronaldo's post featured an image of him posing on top of a rock, seemingly in a coastal area.
Taking to the comments, Toni Kroos wrote:
"@cristiano wish I was the rock. Lechtz"
However, he later followed up his hilarious comment with an explanation, revealing that he had to do as a joke for a German TV show. He added:
"Had to do this for a German TV show. Sorry Cris."
Cristiano Ronaldo and Toni Kroos have reportedly been close friends since their time playing together at Real Madrid. The two featured in 170 games together with 16 joint-goal participations between 2014 to 2018. The pair together led Los Blancos to win three Champions League titles together.
When Toni Kroos hailed Cristiano Ronaldo as "one of the best in history"
In a 2022 interview with MARCA, Toni Kroos was asked the inevitable question about choosing the best in history between his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. The German midfielder gave an interesting take on the debate, explaining that he does not consider either of them better.
"There is no doubt that Cristiano is one of the best in history. The same happens with Leo Messi. But I don't see one [of them] as better. Because it is difficult to compare who does what on the field and how the game has changed over the decades," Kroos said.
However, Kroos tilted a little towards Cristiano Ronaldo, admitting that he's biased because of the Portuguese talisman's immense contribution to Real Madrid's legacy.
"From my playing days, it's Cristiano Ronaldo (best player of all time). Of course, I'm biased because he made a decisive contribution to us winning a lot of titles. It was exciting and impressive to play alongside Ronaldo," he said.
Toni Kroos added that he has been neighbours with Cristiano for a long time apart from sharing the same dressing room with him. He revealed that he has seen how much of a perfectionist Ronaldo is and therefore it would be 'forbidden' for him to name Lionel Messi over him as the best in history.
"We were not only team-mates but also neighbors in the dressing room and neighbors in private. He lived right next to me. Seeing what a perfectionist he is was impressive. That is why it is forbidden for me to name Messi (as the best player of all time)," he explained.
Toni Kroos announced his retirement from football in May 2024. In his last days as a footballer, the midfielder led Real Madrid to win their 15th Champions League and the La Liga. He also went to the Euro 2024 quarter-finals with Germany.
Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal were also knocked out of Euro 2024 in the quarter-final after a 5-3 defeat to France on penalties.
