Harry Kane possibly out for up to two months with ankle ligaments damage
Tottenham Hotspur may have eked out a victory against opponents Sunderland on Sunday, but they have to now tweak deal with another problem as Harry Kane is expected to miss up to two months of Football after suffering an injury. Kane who scored the winning goal on Sunday at White Hart Lane was taken off after he fell awkwardly and twisted the ankle, thus damaging his ligaments.
The English striker who has been the focal point of Spurs attack left the stadium on crutches after the game and scan test results held on Monday have confirmed that there is no damage to the bone. A fracture, however, may have resulted in a 4-month layoff.
However, there is a possibility that Kane may have sustained a ligament damage of serious nature and would require a period of six-eight weeks to heal. Spurs are currently awaiting the second scan test results before they can confirm it officially.

An injury of this nature is something players can’t be rushed back from and Kane will have to take sufficient time to recuperate. As a result, there is a possibility that Kane, might miss out important fixtures against CSKA Moscow and Bayer Leverkusen, in the Champions League, while also missing key Premier League fixtures against Manchester City, Leicester City and Arsenal.
An official confirmation is still awaited from the club as Tottenham take on Gillingham in the EFL Cup third round, with Vincent Janssen, the Dutch international set to start the game. The Dutchman who was a prolific scorer for his previous side AZ Alkmaar is yet to score for his new club.
While the injury may have come at an inopportune time for Spurs, it might actually do the Englishman a benefit. In recent games, Kane hasn’t looked as sharp as he was last season and given the non-stop exposure to competitive football, his energy levels have comparatively reduced. This enforced break might actually be a boon for the player, for it will help him refocus his energies.
Pochettino will probably rotate the squad for this tie ahead of the away fixture against Middlesbrough in the Premier League on Sunday. Gillingham who lost their weekend fixture against Port Vale on Saturday will hope to put up a better performance. Gillingham currently lie 13th in the League One table and defeated Watford in the earlier round.
It was a hard fought victory for the League One side, as they took the game against the Premier League opponents to extra time before striker Bradley Dack scored the match winner in the 102nd minute to score a famous victory and set up a tie against Spurs.
