Harry Kane will have to think about leaving Tottenham sooner rather than later

Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal - Premier League
Is Kane being let down by his teammates?

After the 4-1 defeat to Manchester City last weekend, a number of Tottenham stars must have felt that the grass is truly greener outside the Wembley, none more so than 24-year-old England international, Harry Kane.

The Spurs hotshot failed to trouble a resolute City defence, but his performance had to do with his team’s overall display. The North London giants have been actively involved in the last two title races, but last week’s defeat left them 21 points behind them and City, a truly unassailable lead at this point of the season.

Tottenham have failed to win any trophies ever since Mauricio Pochettino arrived at the club, with their rivals such as Manchester United, Chelsea City and even Arsenal celebrating trophy wins.

Last summer, England right back, Kyle Walker, left the club to join City, as he felt the club couldn’t match his ambition to win the major trophies on offer. When push comes to shove, Spurs are generally found wanting as Pochettino’s record against The Top 6 away from home is nothing to write home about.

Kane must surely be thinking of leaving the club to establish himself as the world-class striker he truly is. He has netted an astonishing 50 goals this calendar year, just three behind the likes of Ronaldo, Messi and Lewandowksi who currently top that chart.

Kane is still just 24, and being a Tottenham boy through and through, will be sceptical of leaving the club under a cloud as the Spurs fans are known worldwide for never forgiving players who make the jump to other rival teams.

Despite boasting 86 points in the league last season, enough to win the competition in some years, they still finished 7 points behind eventual champions Chelsea, who stormed to the title with their stunning 13-match winning sequence.

All the club’s rivals have strengthened adequately, with Spurs leaving their business for quite late in the transfer window. The likes of Davinson Sanchez and Fernando Llorente have failed to justify their transfer fees and reputations, while Ivorian defender, Serge Aurier has proved his quality only sporadically.

For a striker like Kane, the future is of great importance. The supporting cast that has helped him in recent years--- the likes of Son, Eriksen and Dele Alli have not really stepped up to the party.

With world-class strikers being scanty in world football, a time would come when Kane would be left to make the decision of whether or not to stay at the club. Perhaps, if the club is doing so well, he might be tempted to stay but with the club building a new stadium whose cost has spiralled past the initial budget, recruitment in the coming years might just be dismal.

England left-back, Danny Rose complained about the wages that are being paid at the club, of which the 27-year-old stated that it was in stark contrast to what the other top earners at other clubs are earning, and it could have a damaging effect in the first team dressing room.

While it is too early to think of Kane leaving his boyhood club, if they continue to wallow in mediocrity, he might outgrow the club like Gareth Bale did. 90 league goals in 130 matches is no mean feat and it is a fact not lost on a host of Europe’s top clubs.
