"Haven't seen them quite at their best"- Michael Owen predicts the results of Liverpool vs Brighton
Michael Owen has backed Liverpool to claim victory against Brighton and Hove Albion when the two sides meet at the Amex Stadium on Saturday. Owen believes Jurgen Klopp's side could face a tricky test against the Seagulls as they haven't been 'at their best' in recent weeks.
The Reds claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory over West Ham United last weekend, during which they conceded a number of goalscoring opportunities to the Hammers.
The Reds suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Inter Milan in the second leg of their round of 16 tie with the Italian giants in the Champions League in midweek.
Liverpool were guilty of being wasteful in front of goal against Simone Inzaghi's side. Owen believes the 2019-20 Premier League champions could return to form against Brighton as Graham Potter's side have suffered a massive dip in form in recent weeks. The club have lost four consecutive games in the Premier League.
"Brighton's form really dipped over the last month or so. They just aren't scoring enough goals right now, after all only Burnley and Norwick have less all season. There's no danger of this side going down, but Graham Potter will want to target finishing in the top 10," Owen told BetVictor.
He added:
"Liverpool's last couple of games haven't seen them quite at their best. They got the win over West Ham but did concede a few chances in that game and on another day, could have drawn. The defeat to Inter on Tuesday was frustrating, mainly because they had more than enough chances to win that game."
He also said:
"Liverpool are due a game in which they score a few goals, they are creating plenty of chance. I think that will come here. 3-1 Liverpool."
The Reds have been in imperious form in the Premier League in recent months. Jurgen Klopp's side are yet to lose a game in the league since their 1-0 defeat to Leicester City on December 29.
Liverpool must return to form as they approach a crucial phase of the season
The Reds have won the Carabao Cup this season and progressed to the quarter-finals of the Champions League thanks to their 2-1 aggregate victory over Inter Milan in the Round of 16.
The Reds have also reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and are just six points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City in the league table with a game in hand over Pep Guardiola's side.
Jurgen Klopp's side possesses one of the best squads in Europe and arguably have the strength in depth required to challenge for the three competitions they are still a part of.
The Reds have, however, shown some cracks in their armor in recent weeks. Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah admitted that the Reds had shown signs of complacency during their 1-0 defeat to Inter Milan in midweek as per iol.co.
Klopp's men must continue to focus and churn out results, especially in the Premier League, if they are to catch Manchester City.
