'He asks me, why they want to kill me in Argentina'- Messi makes Thiago confession
What is the story?
Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, has admitted that he struggles to deal with the criticism from the Argentine people and media with constant “lies” printed on him.
He has also confessed that his elder son, Thiago, has asked him why Albiceleste fans wants to “kill” him Argentina.
In case you didn’t know….
Messi’s return to the national team wasn’t quite a fruitful one. The Albiceleste captain returned to the national squad just after little shy of nine months only to suffer a humiliating 3-1 defeat in the hands of Venezuela in an International friendly. Messi failed to make an impression on the field and looked a shadow of himself throughout the 90 minutes.
However, Messi’s relationship with the Argentine media has always been a grumpy one as the all-time top scorer with Argentina has been scapegoated several times due to the national team’s recent failures. This might be one of the many reasons for his recent “break” from the international stage after their shambolic performance in the 2018 Russia World Cup.
Whereas, Messi is having one of the best campaigns of his career for Barcelona. The Catalan giants are on track for their third potential treble in the last decade or so, courtesy to some brilliant individual performance from their captain. He has already scored 39 goals for Barcelona and provided 15 assists in just 42 appearances.
The heart of the matter…
In an interview with the Argentine radio show, Club Octubre 94.7 FM (via Goal), Messi revealed:
"It is hard, my son is always looking on YouTube and saw a video. He asked me why in Argentina they want to kill me!”
He has also insisted that he would like to win some silverware for his national side before his retirement.
"But I like to keep going. I still want to win something with the national team. I am going to play all the important games. We already reached a World Cup final [in 2014] and this is not that easy."
"I don't want to make a reality all the lies they say about me."
"I don't decide on the national team coaches. I am hearing these bad things and it is hard to enjoy in that scenario." he elaborated.
What’s next?
Messi will be in Argentina’s Copa America squad in the upcoming June as the Argentina manager confirmed it a few days back.
Meanwhile, in La Liga, the Barcelona ace will take on Espanyol on Saturday night at Camp Nou.
