“He let the hype get to his head”, “Not playing in this team again” - Fans believe Barcelona superstar has no place in team after 7-0 win
Barcelona fans believe Dutch midfielder Frenkie De Jong has no place in the team following the club's massive 7-0 victory over Real Valladolid in La Liga on Saturday (August 31).
Frenkie De Jong has been out since April 2024 after injuring his ankle during El Clasico in La Liga. Despite an originally estimated four to six weeks of recovery period, the midfielder is still not fit to return to the pitch. As per a report by RAC1 this week, De Jong might have to undergo injury to be fully fit once again.
Fans have been waiting for De Jong's return for four months now, especially after 17-year-old Marc Bernal picked up an ACL injury. Bernal was playing alongside Pedri as a pivot, a position De Jong could fit well into.
However, the midfielder will reportedly remain out of action for an uncertain period. Culers have been further concerned about his unavailability since De Jong is reportedly one of the club's highest earners despite their well-documented financial woes.
After a massive 7-0 victory against Real Valladolid in La Liga, Culers took to X to criticize De Jong, claiming he will no longer have a place in the team. One Barcelona fan wrote:
"He let the hype get to his head and stopped improving. Very privileged and cocky. Fermin gavi and Pedri can fill his spot easily."
"He's not playing in this team again," another fan agreed.
"He should have left long ago," a user added.
"Tough, no space for him lol," another person chimed in.
"we told you he's mid," a fan wrote.
"He has to be sold in the next window…" an individual suggested.
Culers continued to share their views about De Jong and how he would fit into Flick's new system.
"He doesnt fit in. He never did fit in. He is a scam. Never progresses forwards anymore or scores much either," a fan commented.
"It’s over for him," another X user opined.
"They should just sell him to reduce salary cost," a Culer mentioned.
Frenkie De Jong joined Barcelona from Ajax on a five-year deal in 2019. In 213 appearances for the Catalan giants, the Dutchman has recorded 17 goals and 21 assists.
"There is no need for other players" - Raphinha shares thoughts after scoring first hat-trick for Barcelona
Brazilian winger Raphinha delivered an exceptional performance against Real Valladolid in La Liga on Saturday (August 31). The Brazilian scored his first hat-trick for Barcelona in the game, alongside an assist.
In the post-match press conference, Raphinha shared his thoughts after the match and said (via barcacentre):
"Today's game shows that there is no need for other players to come. We are in good shape, and it shows on the pitch. We always respect our opponents and the way to show respect is to always go for the goal."
The Brazilian continued:
"I feel good. I've been working hard since I came back from vacation. I knew it would be an important season for me. I'm very happy because it's the first hat-trick of my career. I'm very confident, and we are in very good shape. The result says a lot about the moment we are in."
Barcelona's winning streak has continued with them winning all four of their La Liga matches so far. They are currently at the top of the table with 12 points.
