Highlights: Argentina held 2-2 by Paraguay, Uruguay beat Jamaica 1-0

Lionel Messi’s penalty was not enough for Argentina as Paraguay snatched a late equaliser

Lionel Messi and Argentina started off their Copa America campaign with a draw after Paraguay staged a dramatic comeback from being 2-0 down to draw 2-2 in the opening match of Group B in 2015 Copa America.

Argentina were 2-0 up thanks to goals from Messi and Sergio Aguero but the Paraguayans fought back to draw 2-2.

Nelson Valdez had reduced the deficit with a long-range strike before Lucas Barrios struck a dramatic 90th-minute equaliser.

Barrios had replaced Roque Santa Cruz with 11 minutes left in the game. The striker fired a shot past Argentina’s goalkeeper Sergio Romero from a Paulo da Silva knockdown of a set-piece.

Uruguay starts with a win

Defending Champions Uruguay started off their campaign with a 1-0 win over Jamaica. Uruguay looked to be missing the suspended Luis Suarez but managed to seal  a hard fought victory.

Oscar Tabarez’s team found it hard to find a way past the resolute Jamaican defence. However, they were rewarded for not giving up as Cristian Rodriguez took advantage of a defensive lapse.

The winger struck in the 52nd minute as he struck a close-range effort after a set-piece build-up. The goal was enough to earn Uruguay all three points.
