Highlights: Bayern Munich hammer AC Milan 3-0 in Audi Cup

Bayern Munich players celebrate after Mario Gotze scored in the 73rd minute

Bayern Munich barely broke a sweat as they ran out comfortable winners against AC Milan in their Audi Cup clash on Tuesday. Juan Bernat, Mario Gotze, and Robert Lewandowski scored for the hosts who had the match in control pretty much all the time.

Bernat opened the scoring for the Bavarians in the 23rd minute after collecting the ball on the left just outside the penalty area. The 22-year-old’s shot took a huge deflection off Milan defender Christian Zapata that left goalkeeper Diego Lopez wrong-footed and the ball crept in at the near post.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg should have doubled the lead just three minutes later when he attempted to score with his chest off a cross from summer signing Douglas Costa, only for the ball to hit the post and head back into play.

Costa was lively in his 45 minutes on the field and probably should have scored at least once. An audacious 30-yard shot just blazed over the crossbar before a Bayern counter-attack left him one-on-one against Lopez. The Spaniard saved the initial effort, but the ball fell invitingly for Costa who once again skied his shot.

Fellow summer recruit Arturo Vidal also put on an excellent display with the Chilean coming close with an early free-kick and had another shot come off the bar just before the half-time interval.

Pep Guardiola, who had an angry altercation with Milan skipper Nigel de Jong in the tunnel as the players were heading back to the dressing room, replaced the two new signings with Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski.

Milan had their only real chance of the game early in the second half with Carlos Bacca coming close with a shot with the outside of his right foot. Gotze gave Bayern some breathing space giving Bayern a deserved second goal that came in the 73rd minute.

Former Borussia Dortmund pair Gotze and Lewandowski linked together well at the edge of the box and the World Cup winner scored with his left foot as the ball fell at his feet rather fortuitously.

Lewandowski put the icing on the cake for Bayern scoring in the 85th minute after a defensive error by Alex allowed Muller to pass to the Polish striker who rattled the net with a smashing volley.
