Highlights: Colombia defeat Brazil 1-0 in ill-tempered match; Neymar and Bacca sent-off
Brazil might have come into the Copa America having won all their matches since the World Cup, but Colombia had something else in mind as they defeated the Selecao 1-0, thanks to Jeison Murillo’s goal. Brazil are now placed 3rd in Group C and need to win their final match to progress.
In what was an ill-tempered match, the Colombians came prepared to avenge their defeat against the Brazilians in the World Cup quarter-final and achieved their objective. This was only their second victory against Brazil in the last 10 matches.
Los Cafeteros were the better team all through the game and made the most of their chance, with Murillo scoring from a loose ball after a set-piece wasn’t cleared properly in the 36th ?minute.
The match though was a scrappy affair, and it ended with both teams involved in a fracas, as Neymar headbutted the goalscorer Murillo, following which Carlos Bacca, came and shoved Neymar in the back, after which both teams had to be separated.
Both Neymar and Bacca were sent off for their actions. Neymar, who was the hero for Brazil in the previous game, turned into a villain with his antics here.
This result now sees Venezuela at the top of group C, with 3 points, while Brazil and Colombia are 2nd and 3rd, both with 3 points from two matches, the former ahead of the latter thanks to the fact that they have scored more goals.
