Highlights: Manchester City beat Newcastle 2-0 to top Premier League table
In a fast-paced and physical game, Premier League champions Manchester City saw off Newcastle at St. James Park with a 2-0 victory. As many as six Newcastle players made their Premier League debut for the club.
Before kickoff, Newcastle paid homage to the two fans who were killed when Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 was shot down in Ukraine.
They home side had a number of chances to score but were unable to capitalize on many opportunities. This makes it the tenth successive win for City over Newcastle in the Premier League.
Newcastle 0-1 Manchester City: Silva
David Silva opened the scoring six minutes from half-time. Yaya Toure sent in a long ball from deep which was brought down by Edin Dzeko. He then made a no-look backheel pass to Silva who had made a run into the box. The Spaniard took one touch before slotting home.
Newcastle 0-2 Manchester City: Aguero
The game could have even ended in a draw when Moussa Sissoko sent a screamer over the bar. But soon after, Aguero, who had come on as a substitute, had a solo effort on goal in stoppage time which was first blocked by goalkeeper Tim Krul. But the Argentine striker was quick to get back on his feet and score the second goal to put the game to bed.
